Dear Taxpayers:
The Municipal Tax Structure for the year 2000 is now posted up in all businesses located within the Town. Invoices for your 2000 taxes will be issued by our Auditor in early February. Those ofyou wishing to pay your taxes for 2000 can make payments to the Town Office. The Town Council would like to thank you for your prompt payments in keeping your tax accounts to-date and for your continuous support.
OUTSTANDING ACCOUNTS
For all those with outstanding accounts you have until January 31st, 2000, to contact the office and make arrangements for payment. All outstanding taxes, received in payments or not. must be paid in full on or before February 29, 2000. If you have an outstanding account and do not contact the office by January 31s1 services will no longer be provided to you.
Garbage Service - garbage will not be picked up to householders who do not have their garbage fees paid in full. A list of names will be issued to the contractor on February 1lit. For those ofyou who have your fees paid in full, please do not let your next door neighbour use your service by letting them put their garbage with yours. Garbage pickup will be monitored. Residents are advised that the Department of Environment has already been contacted by the Town. If garbage is lying around because the Town is no longer providing the service to you, you will be in violation of the Environmental Act. Any one interested in finding out more can contact an Environmental Office, Richard Pile or Boyd Wriglit, at 637-2204. Garbage fees must be paid by each householder whether you use the service or not.
Poll Tax - fire protection service will no longer be provided by our Fire Department if you, your spouse or any member from your household who do not have poll taxes paid in full. A list of names will be provided to al I insurance companies informing them that you no longer have fire protection by our Town. Please contact your insurance company for increase rates due to this. Once names are issued they will not be taken off the list until you, your spouse or any member from your household has all poll taxes paid in full. If your income is less that the basic personal amount according to the Income Tax Act ($6, 794.00) you will be exempt from your poll tax if you apply at the Town Office. Copies of your income tax return is required. It is your responsibility to get this done before the deadline date.
Water Tax - water service will be disconnected if you do not have your water tax paid in full. A list of names will be given to our maintenance person for disconnection of your service. In order to be reconnected to the service there is a $ 100.00 fee, plus all water taxes paid in full. Water tax will be charged to all those who are connected to the service whether they are turned on or off.
Business Tax - businesses still owing taxes will no longer be provided with garbage and fire protection services. Copies from your Auditor or Revenue Canada determining gross income receipts are required. Again contact your insurance company lor an increase in rate. Occupancy permits can be revoked.
If you have taxes owing or think you may have an outstanding account, 1 urge you to contact the office before the deadline date JANUARY 31s1, 2000.
Employers will be notified to deduct from your salary any outstanding Tax owing to the 'town.
LANDLORDS/PROPERTY OWNERS
Landlords and property owners must fill the necessary forms at the 'town Office regarding occupancy of rental units before January 31st, 2000. Information will no longer be received by telephone. Signatures are required for proper invoicing purposes. If information is not received before the deadline date, landlords will be billed directly for garbage fees. Anyone owning real property, real property being a building/dwelling, will be billed for poll tax whether or not they live here. Fire Protection Services are provided to your property whether you are here or not. You can only be exempt from this tax if you are over 65 years of age or if your annual income for the financial year is less that the basic personal amount under the Income Tax Act. Exemption must be made at the Town Office, and a copy of your income tax return is required. Deadline date according to the New Municipalities Act is July 1st, of each year.
APRIL 1s1, 2000, ALL OUTSTANDING ACCOUNTS WILL BE LISTED IN PUBLIC AREAS.
VOLUNTEERS
Thank you to all who volunteer on the Fire Department and Ambulance Service. Without you there would be no service. More volunteers are needed at this time. The Ambulance Service, for example, is operating with very fee volunteers. Volunteers are being asked to take 2 and 3 day 24 hour shifts in order to provide residents with the service. We arc pleading with you to come forward and volunteer to assure this service continues. Without volunteers we can longer exist. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact the office. Standard First Aid and CPR is being offered to those who would like to become a volunteer on the Ambulance Service. This 2-3 day course is going to be offered tlie last weekend in January at the Town Office. The Ambulance Service will also incur the cost of medicals and upgrade of a Class 04 Driver's Licence.
