Permits:

Permits are required from the Town Office for the construction of houses, commercial buildings, sheds, garages and extensions to homes and other buildings. Permits are also required for sewage systems and replacement systems. Residents do not require a permit for fencing, renovations, or any type of beautifica+ion they do on their home or property.

Clean-up Period:

Clean-up period is scheduled for the weeks of May 12-16 and June 16-20. Residents are asked to clean-up their property and make every effort to clean along the ditch and roadside as well. Notices were posted up in businesses. All small items should be properly bagged so handling can be made easier. You are asked to help the contractor to load larger or heavy items. The dump site will be open on Tuesday only, during regular pick-up, when the contractor is at the site. If dumping is required, it has to be done during that time. The bump Key is no longer available from the office, since people were not dumping in the proper area. Tires are no longer permitted at dump sites. This is according to Environmental Regulations. Tires can be dropped off at Ralph White 644-2332. DUMPING AND LITTERING IS ILLEGAL

Vehicle Wrecks/Old Buildings and Eyesores:

Residents are asked to remove all vehicle wrecks before the end of Clean-up period. It is the responsibility of the owner to make arrangements to have their wrecks removed. You can contact Ralph White at 644-2332. If using wrecks for spare parts, or other purposes, please have it stored from eye view.

Residents who have old buildings and fencing that are no longer maintained are asked to tear it down or start making some minor renovations so they are no longer eyesores to our residents, neighbors and tourists. We are asking that every household make an effort to start cleaning, some areas do require clean-up.

If vehicle wrecks or eyesores still exist by the end of clean-up period, written notice will be issued to residents with a copy of that same letter sent to the Department of Environment for further action. The Town will be contacting Local Service Districts to do the same. Everyone should play a part in helping keep their community clean and safe.

Water System Upgrades <& Water Usage:

The Town of Cape St. George received announcement, from MHA - Gerald Smith and MP - Bill Matthews, for funding in the amount of $148,000.00 under the Canada -Newfoundland and Labrador Infrastructure Program. This is to complete the last section of waterline in the Marches Point area, and to finish the testing of the remaining waterline that was abandoned years ago. If this goes ahead, the Town will then eliminate the last remaining pumphouse #5. Since there has been no confirmation on what the Towns share in dollars will be at this time, funding has not yet been accepted.

The Town would like to apologize for the inconvenience with water turn-offs since the latter part of winter and with water problems that we are still having to-date. Water problems started to occur during the winter months, and reports were made that some residents were leaving their water run at night because it would or could freeze. The Town had no other alternative but to turn-off water every other night to ensure everyone had water during the day time. Residents should ensure that their wa+erlines are placed deep enough so water does not freeze when it is turned off. It is the responsibility of the owner to report water leaks on their line and repair or replace the line if necessary. At this time residents are asked to conserve water until all leaks areUniversity. A copy of acceptance for College or University is required. The Ambulance Service received one request from a University Student for placement with the Student Work and Services Program (SWASP) to work on the Ambulance Service for an 8-week period. Approval was confirmed May 9, 2003.

CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS: The Town Clerk is looking for help with planning Canada Day Celebrations. If anyone, students welcome, is interested in being on this committee, you can contact the Town Clerk during office hours.

VANDALISM:

Last fall there was damage done to our fountain, spot lights and power outlet box, located at the Town Square. We are asking residents to make reports to the Town Office or RCMP if they see vandalism taking place. We cannot afford to replace such costly items yearly. The Parish sign was also damage a week ago. It is sad to see people destroy the good works of others. Others who take the time to do good things. Feedback on this update will be gladly received and appreciated by contacting the Town Clerk. We would like to hear from our residents on the work that is done or things that should be done to improve the Community that we live in.

Thank-you for your continuous support and cooperation.
