Gaspeg Mi'kmaq played host to a delegation of Mi'kmaw the Port au Port Peninsula from Newfoundland who made an official visit on Friday, August 6, 2004 to the Gaspeg Mi'kmaq Band Council Office.
This historical meeting of the two was the first step in a new relationship of cooperation and friendship. Mi'kmaw from the Port au Port Peninsula and Gaspeg share a common element -both sharing a connection with Francophone areas.
As well, both bands have a desire to make agreements with the Federal government that will bring equality to our people with other first nation communities.
