In cooperation with Cape St. George’s Canada Week celebrations, our First Nation held a cultural display on June 21, 2004 at the Le Terre-Neuviens Francais (French Centre) in De Grau from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The display was a showcase of Mi’kmaq crafts, ancestry, photos, and other items on loan from local Mi’kmaq. Our display table attendant, Bernadette Telac wore traditional clothing and played traditional music. The public seemed very interested in seeing this first time event of it's kind in Cape St. George.
Chief Benwah said it was also an opportunity for the local Mi'kmaq community to show it's solidarity for the Francophone community in this time of the 400 anniversary of French presence. We will also be participating in the walk-a-ton from Cape St. George to Mainland on July 26 for the St-Jean Baptiste day celebrations.
The events was also the timing of the selection of the winning ticket for our band office fundraiser which took place at 8:00 pm. The Bed-in-a-bag donated by Peter Benoit and Bernadette Telac was won by Kevin Duffenias of Boswarlos. $500.00 was raised.
Many thanks to all who made this event a success, including Bernadette Telac and Peter Benoit, the Town of Cape St. George, and Les Terre-Neuviens Francais.
