Saqmaw Jasen Benwah after presented with headdress.

During a band Council meeting held on July 20, 2004 at their Gathering Place, local Mi'kmaq presented their Saqmaw, Jasen Benwah, with a headdress. The occasion was his birthday.

Chief Jasen was very happy.

"It makes me very proud to be honoured in this way", Chief Benwah said.

"I thank you all for this wonderful birthday gift." he added.

The Chief was completely taken by surprise as he had no knowledge that this presentation was to take place.

This followed by picture taking. Then the Meeting resumed with the Chief continuing to wear the headdress for the rest of the meeting.

Members remarked that this event marks not ony Chief Benwah's birthday, but the level of respect and support Chief Benwah has from the Mi'kmaw community.
